Chip/Programmer questions.

I am thinking about hopping up my 2002 7.3l a little. I have a few nooby questions though. Will a chip like the TS alter shifting patterns and pressures or will only a programmer do this? I DO NOT want to kill my tranny. I am looking for a little more zip and better mileage, not a 1/4 mile machine. I was looking at an edge evo II as well but am not sure if the settings will help mileage or if they are strictly power gains. I like the idea of the digital gauges too. I know I can get better power out of some of the other custom tunes. What do you guys recommend for a guy with a budget who doesn't need a racer and doesn't want to prematurely kill the truck? Also, what can someone buy for a digital guage kit if he went for a TS chip?

Hey bud a Tony wildman chip all the way: Stealth Automotive. Tony Wildman Chip ... if your on a budget just get the tunes you would want... i would suggest Econo, Daily, extreme if your on a budget... you will need some gauges though.. you can go anolog or digital... for the digital gauges i would suggest the Edge Insight... Stealth Automotive. Edge Insight Multi-Gauge Display

i can make a package deal on both gauges and chip if you would like... or i can get you the Evo 2 which is very good programmer... my dyno numbers are with the edge evo on my truck.... also a custom tune chip will provide trans tuning... let me know if you have any questions

Budget chip: Generic TS 6-pos chip off of ebay for $260 shipped. eBay Motors: TS PERFORMANCE CHIP 94-03 FORD POWERSTROKE 7.3 DIESEL (item 320197075225 end time Dec-25-07 20:20:25 PST)
Digital gauge kit: this is what my truck came with: BD Engine Brake - Ford Diesel XMonitor Digital Gauges

DP Tuner can also burn you a chip with just one or two tunes that won't hurt your tranny too much. Anytime you increase power you will decrease the life of the trans a little bit, and it can bring forth problems sooner rather than later.
