99 F-250
Hey everyone,
Im looking to buy my first diesel today i test drove a 1999 f-250 with 179k at a local dealer it started fine and sounded fine but when i was taking it for a spin it seemed like the turbo wasnt spooling like it should u really couldnt hear it untill higher in the rpm's seemed like i had to really get on it to get it to get up and go... is this normal for a truck with this miles or does it seem like somthing is really wrong i asked the dealer about it and told him it didnt feel like it was running really strong and i dont want to invest in somthing that is gonna die on me in the near future. But he told me if i wanted he would have it looked into. does this sound normal ? need your wisdom guys lol have a good one ! |

you should hear the turbo spool up. know i do agree that under light to no load youw il not hear it. and even under a moderate foot its not that loud. know if it were chipped its loud. and spools up faster. most i seen out of my early 99 stock was about 18 and that was pushing eth pedal to the floor. know with a chip i am easily seeing 29 psi. does teh truck sound strong drive strong. ask him if you can pull teh intake tube off and grabe teh turbo blades and look at them closely and check for up-down and side to side movement. just some things to check. might be worth a few buck for a dieel tech to look at like your own mechanic. just my 2 cents though

I agree with stroker, have someone check it out. Also put your hand in front of the exhuast when its running and see if you feel mosture on your hand. thats bad, I would def. have someone look at. but if all checks out I wouldnt worry about the milliage. mine has 230k and some change, and it still runs and tows strong. just went threw a few trannys to get there
