About to pull the trigger on a zf6 swap. price??
I like to think I'll keep this truck forever, having an auto was the one thing I didn't like. The truck has developed a harsh shudder when accelerating in first and second gear, I am guessing torque converter shudder. I've also noticed my trans temps have been about 15* hotter lately than they are normally. When I first got the truck I dropped the pan and found a 3" long piece of broken c clip so I've always been paranoid, flushed the trans last weekend (20k on fluid) and it was blackish purple.
A shop here in town has everything I would need to swap. Parts I will be getting: good zf6 w shifter manual t case w linkage all bolts harness bellhousing spacer pedals master and slave cylinders all lines floor hump column stuff flywheel used clutch computer everything I'll need Does $3700 sound like too much? The way I figure is I can sell whatever I take off and probably make back at least a grand, so 3k for a complete manual trans and tcase swap doesn't seem too bad. Anyway what do yall think? |

Not too bad but I'd ditch the used clutch and get a new South Bend or Valair clutch. Never know if the old one is warped or such. Just my .02

Yeah I'd be putting it all in. Planning on going with the 1944-6ok from southbend.
I hate spending this much money at once but I've never seen a complete setup anywhere near me for sale. Not having to hunt down parts individually seems like it is worth something and a lot of the parts are really hard to find. I really like the idea of manual trans and tcase. Never cared for the little knob. We will see what happens, I cant think of a mod that I've wanted to do more. I watch my trans temp gauge as closely as the speedometer. Saying all that, I'll probably find a whole setup for 1/4 the price the day after I install it all. |

Thats usually how it works - I don't know what the swap should go for, but if you can find everything at once and in one place that's always a plus. I guess I've got the best of both worlds... a truck with a ZF6 when I want to drive it and an Auto. I had searched for 2 months prior to finding my 6spd and the Auto king of just fell into my lap for dirt cheap.

$3700 sounds good. I have about 5K into my swap .. worth every penny if you ask me! Yeah if i were to do another i could save a few bucks.

Well I'm committed now. Ordered the clutch and having Jody at dp reflash my PCM and f5 on Monday. Going to pull my trans this weekend I should have all the zf6 stuff tomorrow so I can go ahead and do the trans hump and pedals. Hopefully the clutch will come in early next week so I can get the zf6 in and get her back on the road.
