Well just burnt another starter last night this makes the 7th one I have burnt. What am I doing wrong?I plug it in every night cycle the glow plugs 3 times for the ful two minutes when I start it. Last night I started it to go ice skating with some girls, picked them up and went to the rink. But when I got in to start it all I got was a clicking sound and it didn't sit for more than an hour so I don't know what's going on. Should I just install a hand crank on the front for when this happens lol?
Never heard of fisher auto... Are they new or rebuilt starters?
IMO, cycling the glow plugs is a waste. Especially if it's plugged in. That's up to 6 minutes of a 200 amp load. When it's real cold (Close to 0*F), I'll wait ~45 seconds, maybe a minute. Without knowing how your battery voltage is, maybe the battery voltage is dropping a little before you try starting it and it's harder on the starter? Don't think this is a real likely cause though. 7 starters is crazy...
i would use the pull cord instead of the hand crank.....hope you bought the lifetime warranty one, I had a big block chevy w/ 13:1 compression i feel your pain as i went through 12 starters cause i didn't get a high torque starter which dunno maybe you need to upgrade?
Ya it happens,at least I had another stroker pull me back to my dorm. If I go for the pull start I'm gonna need some heavy rope or just make it a standard so I can bump start it
Buddy of mine that went to Alfred said his roomie had a starter that was only 125 and it would start his 7.3 faster on a CS then a Cummins. unfortunatly he cant remember the name of it lol
I've heard DBElectrical makes a higher torque starter they are brand new and sell for $90 on eBay. I've never really read bad bout them. Its worth a shot

I think your cycling your GPs to much and draining all the power from your batts. Thus nit giving full power to the starter and causing it to work a lot harder on less power and burning them up.
Also make sure you have good grounds and the positive cable is not corroded

Could be a possibility but if i dont cycle them at least 2 times, I crank on it forever even plugged in for it to start especially when its really cold. The termanals are clean as a whistle one of the auto shop teachers had me pull my truck in so his class could see how to properly clean battery termanals.
Do you get a lot of white smoke on start up? Hard cold starts also show a sign of bad injectors. My truck will start if I plug it 3 hours before I leave even if its down to sub zero temps.
What oil are you running?

Get a new starter and fix your cold start issue. It is currently -8 here at noon. My truck will sit outside from 7 am till 6pm and I have no worry about it starting. (Cycled once for a minute)
Good batteries, oil, relays, and glow plugs will help a lot. Hopefully that is what is tearing out your starters ( low voltage )
