glow plugs/relay
okay so heres the deal my truck has issues starting even when its like 40-45 degrees out what would cause this would it would it be the glow plugs or the relay. my next question how can you test to see if it is the relay before going threw the trouble of the tearing into it the glow plugs. also is there a upgraded glow plug that gets hotter faster kinda deal? i also think it has a prewarm for the air atleast thats what my dad said it looks like ( he works on military generators that have this instead of glow plugs) is this stock or something the owner put in maybe to try to avoid doing the glow plugs

Search the forum on both... Air heater only come into play sometimes, there are methods for troubleshooting glow plugs and the associated relay.

As for t upgraded Glow Plugs, yes. The DieselRx brand are US Made and do get hotter faster, all things being equal. Take a look at the video here on our site for a comparison. I just installed them in my truck and am very pleased with them.

Have the truck scanned to see if the plugs are throwing codes. They did on my truck and the passenger sides were soft codes so did not set the SES light on the dash. I replaced the plugs and harnesses on both sides. That is not a major job. Just getting the IC pipes etc out of the way and the oil filler neck out of the way then lift the valve covers and you are in. Clean around the valve covers first with some air as some dirt can drop in if you are not careful.
My #1 plug finally set a SES light so I had it scanned and was told to replace it (and the rest) so I could get it smogged. I went with Motorcraft plugs and am fine with it. |
