Chip Questions

I just bought a late 99 F250 about a month ago, and I want to put a chip like PHP on it. However the previous owner said that it has a superchips tune flashed on to it for fuel mileage. My question is do I have to return the computer back to stock before putting another chip on, or just not worry about it? I dont have the programmer for the superchips. The guy said he just had some shop put the tune on for him. Thanks

The chip will over ride the tuner. If you put in a stock tune it will end up being the tuned program. Doesn't hurt anything. I forgot to take my tune out when I put in my hydra too.

So if I have a six position chip like the PHP phoenix, when I set it to stock it will just be running the superchips tune that is on the computer? Thanks

the chip overrides whatevers flashed on the pcm.
so the stock version loaded on the chip would be what it would run. i dont think it would use the superchips tune.

Okay that makes alot of sense. I thought maybe the chip would just read the tune on the computer and use that as the stock tune. Thanks for the help.

I thought I read on here that you should have the computer re-flashed back to stock if you were doing a chip? Any dealer can do the re-flash, as far as I know. They will probly charge you for the service, but if it were me, I'd make sure it was a stock tune before I installed the chip.

Come to think about it, I was talking to one of the DP Tuner guys a few weeks ago... I have a DP Tuner on my yellow dually that has been sitting bed-less and unused for the past 8 months, and was thinging about removing the DP from it and putting it in the Excursion, which has an Edge Evolution. They said clearly, to make sure I reinstalled the stock tune with the Edge before trying the DP Tuner (and that the DP still might not work and would likely need reburned for the Ex, but that's another matter in it'self).
