I have got a 10" drop down hitch, solid billet aluminum. My tongue weight is 1500 lbs. but the overall weight it can tow is 10,000 lbs... Beautiful looking and working hitch, cost me $225

Don't worry about a 6" drop, it's nothing, just make sure the hitch can handle the weight. Can't give you a guess on weight as a lot depends on the type of trailer, and size of the horses, but I would guess 5-7K would be close.

i found a 12 inch drop hitch for my truck that has a rating for 500lbs tongue weight and 5000 towing and ive pulled 8000 lbs on it and its fine... tongue weight is the amount of weight over the ball... you can buy a rapid drop hitch that you can ajust to what ever you want that has a rating for 1000lbs tongue and 10,000lbs towing....they are really nice too

Adjustable drop/lift hitch with 3 balls on it from tractor supply. It was $139 and you can haul anything with the 10K capacity. Mfg by Buyers.
