i dunno my buddy is a diesel mechanic and he is a real one he has a certificate from the diesel institute to prove it and he said the same thing and im not argueing with anyone but todays fuel is junk no doubt about it. my buddy said they put tranny fluid in all diesel fuel filters after they change then and told me it wouldnt hurt to put some in my truck. i did and it helped my mileage im sure but i am afraid to do it again because the red tint could be mistaken for offroad fuel and a BIG fine.

I wouldn't stick anything in the fuel tank except for diesel and diesel fuel additives.

Even if you have certs and complete courses doesn't mean you're a Doctor of Philosophy.

im just a blue collar boy that know what ive done and what ive heard, not tryin to offend anyone. but i am pretty sure this new fuel is JUNK and its pretty sad when you pay $80 to fill up and then have to put another $5 of additive in just because its junk. i actually know a boy that just bought an 04 6.0 and it was sputterin and fallin on its face and he called a garage and they told him to put some additive in cus the fuel is no good and thats what the problem was. anyone else had any trouble with it? i know my mileage dropped when they changed the fuel.

Sounds to me like your buddy got some bad fuel. I always buy fuel from places that sell a lot of it, like truck stops and I haven't noticed any change in my truck. Maybe a slight decrease in mpg, but that could be my heavy foot too!! There is a lot of myths out there about the new ULSD, there is nothing wrong with the formula itself. I don't believe they would be releasing this stuff if all the OTR trucks were puking all over the place. We had some adjustments when changing over, such as the O rings in the fuel/water seperator valve, but there is sufficient lubricants in the new fuel to meet the needs of any diesel engine. As I said if worried add some Power Service or other additive of your choice ( not something somebody told you to do) it doesn't cost $5.00, probably around $1.00 to be honest. I have been doing this with every tank since I bought the truck in 03, not because of the new fuel.

Not by any means stepping on anyone's toes here but i was a shop gopher and my bosses all both {ASE CERT} mechs and the fuel filters they would fill up with tranny fluid would smoke for a bit but they said that it cleans the fuel injector and cleans the combustion chamber out it also lubes the injector thats what i have been told and taught

I've been using 2-stoke oil in my fuel for over 20K miles I like it, and highly recommend it!! 1 oz. per gallon at every fill up
The new ULSD IS junk!! The process they use to remove the sulfer from the fuel to bring it all the way down to 15 ppm, also removes a lot of lubricating properties in the fuel. Everybody with a '06 and older truck should be using some kind of additive at every fill up!
Don't use 2-stroke oil because I said so, but please use something!
I use that because it is made to burn and lubricate.
I don't trust the diesel fuel additives because most of their ingredients are an alcohol base (like Naptha). They are made to evaporate, not lubricate.

The bottom line is It is your truck!! use what YOU are comfortable with. I(i'm nobody) do recommend using something to lubricate your injectors though. I'm VERY surprised to hear the general consensus on here is that the fuel is fine. IMO that is a bigger gamble than adding 2-stroke oil to the fuel.

i put a quart of atf in every tank and have been for 150k miles now. and yes ulsd is junk. truck still runs like new. now i don't know whats different in the powerstrokes that it is so bad for it. my dad also adds atf in every tank on his 6.0 we only put powerservice in every 6 fill ups or so to keep everything clean. i don't like to use it alot because it has alcohol in it and i hear thats bad for the motor.
