I am in the market for a used power stroke. I will be pulling a heavy horse trailer with living quarters. I have found a low mileage 2003 7.3 and a multiple newer models with 6.0 and others. Which year would be my best bet to buy. Can someone give me the three best years to buy since 2002 and what problems they may have?--thanks

im gonna say 02-03 7.3 and late 04 up 6.0 IMO

99 and 00 will have forged rods, the 02 will have pmr's, so that is a limiting factor on the power you can put to it.
Look for a 6.0 that has some miles on it and get an oasis report on it, if the report is longer than your arm, walk away if it has very little activity, chances are its an ok truck. Personally I would say the 02. |

![]() I have an 04 6.0 and use it as a daily driver and also for pulling a horse trailer. I love it. A lot of guys around here tend to like the 7.3 for pulling though

3-99 though early 2000.
Mid 2000 through 03-7.3 will have PMR rods. Not bad unless you want power, then you have to stop at 400hp or it will stop for you. |

How do we find out whether we have forged or pmr? Is there a VIN that we can go by? |
