Stranded please help!!

update: currently in southern Illinois near Evansville. both driveshafts are spinning, it will move in 4 high with the front wheels doing the pulling. I have about 750 miles to go. Is it ok to drive the rest of the way on just the front axle if I'm nice to it and keep speeds down?

Driving down the road in cruise control. No power to the rear wheels... Pulled over, turned the truck off, put it back in gear and the speed goes up but no power. If you can help please call 918 851 7646

You may not have any choice at this time of night. Sounds like your rear end is junk either way. Wish I was closer.

Try locking it into 4wd

If its moving in 4wheel, without the hubs locked then I would say it is ok, not good but it should get the job done. If te hubs are locked it is also ok but puts more wear on them and the whole front end.

I decided on locking the hubs in and driving it to a hotel that was about 1/4 mile away parking it for the night and finding a local mechanic that can fix it. Renting a car and then driving back to pick it up when its done in a week or 2

I am located in henderson just south of evansville sorry i didn't see this sooner. Sounds like the the ring and pinion went out of it. If you need a mechanic to work on it I know a few guys and I have a trailer it should fit on. I left you a message on your phone.

Your tone ring is attached to the carrier so if the speed is going up while sitting still, your ring and pinion are in tact. You probably broke a shaft or the spiders. If you can, jack the rear up and try spinning both sides individually and listen for anything unusual.
