Cold Start Knock
Hey all, this morning it was 5 degrees at best and when i started up the truck there was a slight knocking sound for maybe 20 seconds then it purred nicely from there on out. I did have it plugged in for about 3-1/2 hours (it's on a timer) before I started it.
Is this somewhat typical due to the very cold temps? It's an '02. Thanks |

All normal operation. The oil is as thick as molasses at that temperature. Once cranked, it takes a second the get that sluggish oil to move around through the engine. Nothing to worry about.

Mine does the same especially when it gets into the single digits and below. Had her plugged in this morning in those conditions and she fired right up very little if any smoking but she chugged a bit.
