Stancor Relay Mod - Quick Question
Hi, I was having hard start cold weather issues, and thanks to this forum and the Sticky, I was able to figure out w/the volt meter that my glow plug relay is bad.
I have 2001 Ford F350, 7.3L Dually Crew Cab. It appears that I have DUAL glow plug relays. One is working, one is completely dead. I found the part Stancor part online for $52, which is cheaper than stock OEM from Pep Boys. 586 105111 White-Rodgers | Mouser QUESTION - Can I replace the defective / bad relay with the Stancor mod and leave the other one factory / as is ??? Thanks !!! |

Yeah one relay is for the glow plugs the other is for the Air Intake Heater.

Oh, so they're not duals????
Okay, so which is which ? My FRONT most relay is showing dead with ignitionl turn on with voltmeter ? Thanks |

the smaller front relay is the air intake heater.
the air intake heater rarely ever gets used, the parameters for it to engage are almost never met lol so thats why its reading zero voltage. the larger rear one is glow plug relay. i think gopher electronics sells the stancor relay for 54 bucks or so. their should be a write up on how to install. i think the winter operations sticky in the general discussion has it listed. |

Ok, Thanks, I'll exchange the rear Relay with the Stancor and see if this helps .... but that rear relay is showing 12v on voltmeter, so now I'm not even sure thats my cold hard start problem.
THANKS for replies and help. |

I just put one on my truck. Got it off a store on eBay for $25, nib. There's lots of people here that have done this upgrade and there's even a sticky with detailed instructions. For some reason my wires weren't long enough to install the relay like it's shown in the instructions. But I was able to turn it around (with the terminals facing the rear of the truck), and it fit just fine. Mine's an early 99. Maybe that had something to do with it.
