Belt flapping help
Did a search and I couldn't find my particular issue. Looking for some opinions! I just replaced my water pump and serpentine belt and the new belt is flapping pretty good between the alternator and p/s pulleys. Flaps enough to make this annoying groan but only at idle. So, thinking it was the tensioner, I replaced it and it is still flapping. The belt is a gatorback and is the correct one.
So does anyone have any ideas? Idler pulley? Try a different belt? Any help would be great cuz it's highly annoying and I don't want to throw the belt. Thanks! |

Thanks for the replies! Yes it is the correct belt and it is routed properly. With the old belt on, the flapping isn't bad but it chirps really bad and it doesn't go away at higher rpms. I guess I'll try a motorcraft belt today. Is there any difference in belt length w/ cold weather package and w/o it?

Is it possible that the water pump pulley is out of alignment just a bit from when I put it back on?

If all four bolts are in it I don't see how it could be. It's a pretty tight tolerance.
