Full Syn 5/40 will make your 7.3 smile and hush a bit. T-6 Rotella is about $20 a gallon.

And yea, 40w when hot so year round. Some people will say "go to 15/40 if its real hot out" If you hear that, it just means they dont understand oil....

I run Amsoil 15w-40. When I changed the oil to Amsoil (first oil change) it was already staying around 30*. Started a LOT better than whatever I drained out of it.
I've thought about trying 5w-40 next time. Then again, maybe not because I already have 1.5 gallons of 15w-40 left. ![]() I've been using the Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine oil but that's not available in 5w-40. Are you guys using the "premium 5w-40" then? |

What he said. OR you could use the 5w-40 Motorcraft Syn Diesel, I run it when I don't feel like springing for the AMSoil and it's damn close to being just as good. Read this... Another take on the Oil debate |

I am an amsoil dealer so obviously I recommend that, but if you dont want to worry about going through a dealer my next recommendation is Shell Rotella T6, I have run that before and have seen great results in both my truck and other trucks. They heavy duty 15w-40 is a great oil. I like it because it has a narrower weight with is good for shear resistance. For people in cold climates or people with cold start problems, I would recommend a lighter oil like the 5w-40 I use. It wont resist shearing as long, but is easier to start in the cold.
The Shell Rotella T6 is a 5w-40 oil as well. If you would like any information, literature, etc on Amsoil products feel free to PM me. Last edited by AOx4; 11-08-2012 at 03:23 PM. |

So many options and so much information. Gonna have to do some more reading to figure it out. Is it true that once you go synthetic its best to just stay with it? I used to run mobile1 full syn in my mustang but gah i couldnt afford to put that in my diesel lol plus if i catch my dad at the right time he has extra delo 15w40. He runs that in EVERYTHING where he gets it by the barrel.
