help understanding 12 tooth vs 13 tooth starters for 01 7.3
Hello,
I'm looking at replacing the starter on my truck - its cranking slow (side note im also going to do this when im replacing my glow plugs since i have 2 bad glow plugs) I see plenty of high torque starters stating they will work with my truck ..... which is a 2001 ford f350 7.3 these high torque starters are 4.0kw and all 13 teeth design from my understanding the stock starter is a 12 tooth design has anyone replaced their 12 tooth starter with a 13 tooth high torque starter? is the extra tooth there for the extra cranking to get that 4.0kw? i know from talking to other people that the high quality starters from say mean green which cost $350-400 are the best quality ... which you get what you pay for but im on a super budget right now (jsut graduated college and have a bunch of bills) and i found some "value" high torque starters that are the 13 teeth design that cost $150-180 let me know thoughts and suggestions Thanks |

Same here. Bought the cheap one from autozone a year ago for 130? I believe. No problems so far and cranks like a beast.
