Lazy Injectors
hey Guy's I just replaced my GPR in my 2003, 7.3 this weekend and find that my truck is still hard to start cold. My mechanic had previously told me that cylinder number 3 glow plug was dead and that the rest were all still within spec. Just was wondering what else may cause hard starting cold engine. I read that lazy injectors on the 6.0L will cause hard starts and this is caused by a lack of 48 Volts from the FICM. I don't believe that the 7.3 has a FICM, to run the injectors, or does it? Any other ideas?

well when did you change your fuel filter last? after that is done get yourself some fuel additive add that, run a few tanks of fuel and see how it is. another thing to check is batteries cranking amps. those maybe getting weak.

Mileage on injectors? They do get wore out eventually. The motor can also lose compression which will cause hard starts, this isn't super common unless it's very high mileage. Also what oil are you running? now that it is getting colder 15-40 will cause a harder start than if you switch to 5-40. Batteries get weak over time too.
