What does your fuel filter look like when you change it. If it is black and nasty looking most likely you got crap growing in your tank. You should drop the tank and clean it out. Then refill with fresh fuel and add the additives.

when I got the truck the 2nd day I had it I took it over to the shop and had the oil and fuel filter changed. So to answer that, I dont know! Can I pull the filter out and take a look at it without causing harm? when I put it back in what do I have to do? I read somewhere about doing some thing to get the air out of the fuel system and injectors?

How often should you put Fuel additives in your tank. I just bought my first Diesel on Saturday and I want to take care of it. I do not know when the last additive has ever been put in. How much and what brand. Someone told me on sunday every 3rd top off i should put a cup of ATF in the tank. Some one please help me.

FWIW, I was using Stanadyne for a while, I switched over to two Amsoil diesel additives, a performance mixed with a cetane booster and it seems to me, the Amsoil might have increased my MPG by 1 at most.
