I don't know if this will help, but it may if you have a digital odometer. (http://forddieselpower.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7422)

AE, Sanp-On are two that will do the job but you need the Ford enhancement package ( with AE at least ) to read codes and get live data. The Auto Zone freebies and cheap scanners will not work other than very limited soft codes. Don't know about the above mentioned but I doubt that you can get much but very generic stuff that way

If you want to read it on the fly and live data may want to look at the aeroforce interceptor gauge. Fits in a gauge pod and can read a lot. For a laptop based system AE is by far the best out there for the price.

All you need is the domestic primary cartridge that covers the year of your vehicle, the OBD2 adapter for the data cable and the proper personality key. For my 1999 F250 I use the K2a key. I think that key will work for quite a few years after too.
