DIY Intake + Foil Delete - Now strange noise during shifts

I don't know if this is normal or not - it's especially loud at 4th gear when the RPMs go from ~2k down to ~1.5k (if your foot is still in it). And this is normal driving, not WOT.

That "swoosh" sound is called turbo surge. Generally not considered a good thing.

I hate to tell you guys but, continued turbo surge will eventually destroy your turbo. Your best bet would be to buy an ATS housing. Or an aftermarket turbo.

It's a swooosh like you're describing with a very slight screech like a slipping belt.

D-Man: correct me if I'm wrong.... I've noticed the same 'woosh' sound after the DIY air filter mod... it seemed to me to be when the wastegate would be releaseing pressure, due to the up-shift/lowered rpms... what you're saying is that if the turbo is building so much pressure that is has to release it with the wastegate, that we're damaging our turbos? Elaborate on this a little if you would... thanks!
