Tranny Fluid

I'm gonna change my tranny filter and fluid. I bought Penzoil and it say for transmissions that use mercon or dexron III. My tranny dipstick says mercon on it. I almost bought Mercon V but someone told me that i can't use it in my truck. This should be alright right? Has anyone used it before? I have an 03 f250 7.3L auto.

Careful dude. I just got my truck with 160k on it and I took it to a shop to change all the fluids and after they changed the tranny it would not shift out of first and rather then paying a bunch to bandaid it together, I oppted for a rebuild with much stronger parts.

I thought I was doing a good thing by changing the fluids and turns out that it bit me on the butt!

this is typical of high miles and no tranny service in the past (or so I am told by many )

From what I have read after my little problem, under 100k you "should" be ok. after 100k dont mess with it. now I am FAR from an expert here. I have done lots of reading on this subject since it cost me a new tranny.... too bad I did not do the reading BEFORE I told the shop to change the tranny fluid.... o well at least i know that my tranny is going to be very solid from here on!

Well I'm not gonna be power flushing the tranny, I was just gonna drain it, drain the torque converter, and replace the filter. Now I don't want too unti I have some more money in case the tranny goes. lol

The tranny won't go -- change the fluid.

If it goes, its definately not because of the fluid (unless you overfill it or otherwise mess something up)

Mine was flushed and filled at 92K
