It might be a bad thing but I let mine cool completely and spray it down with simple green then use a 1200psi pressure washer set on fan pattern and wash everything. I then let it dry for a long time (like over night) before trying to start it. Never had a problem so far. I have also used the foaming Gunk but I like Simple Green better.

Elbow grease is usually a good influence to any cleaners.

I use the car wash sprayer, just so long the motor has cooled off. It works pretty good

water won't hurt anything as long as you let it dry up!

I would do like alabamafrog -- make sure the engine is cooled down -- then go for it and don't start it until its had time to dry!

a little diesel fuel on the grease and a pressure washer will clean it right up. all these guys worry to much i wash it with the engine on so i know it will run. no need to dry it... what happens when you drive down the road when its raining?

Driving down the road in the rain is not the same as putting a high pressure power washer to the engine bay....

the thing you are trying to avoid is with a pressure washer, it FORCES water past the weather seals on the plugs and connections... Rain just gets the outside of stuff wet -- a pressure washer can force water into the connections, possibly causing shorts
