A Diesel with a shift light???

All right...I'm just working on an idea here...so please bear with me.

To minimize me hitting the REV limiter at the track and on the street, I was thinking, "I could just install a shift light...set it at 3000 and that will give me an idea where I'm at...so I'm not staring at the Tach the whole 1/4 mile."

So I did a little research and I think I found what I need:
MSD 89631 - MSD Programmable Digital Shift Light - JEGS
OR
MSD 8963 - MSD Programmable Digital Shift Light - JEGS
AND
MSD 8918 - MSD Tach Signal GMR Pickup - JEGS

I know a lot of you will be saying stuff like, "Dude you don't need that." ETC, but I really focus too much on the tach while racing and would like to take a little attention off and see what else is going on, EGT, Boost, where am I going?, and further enjoy the joyous 16 seconds of speed. What ya'll think?

I've already possed the question to the vendors here: Vendors: Price availibility Please...
But I would like to start this thread for other's discussion.

LOL--- Ditty, guess you actuly have a use for one... I remember back in my Jeepin' days when the Wranglers were comin' out with a shift light on the dash, the most popular mod then was a peice of black tape to COVER IT UP! LOL
None the less, good luck with your quest... I'm lazy in my young age, I like auto trans...

The shift light in most vehicles is programmed for max milage, not max speed, you'll have to see if MSD, AutoMeter, or some of those have something for you.

I'm looking at installing an aftermarket shift light. (See posted links) They are programable to any RPM, like 3000-12000, in 100 RPM increments.

You could always brag about having the highest RPM PSD ever.

Those lights look nice! It sure beats the old "pills"

I dunno Ditty, if you can figure out what wire to splice into for the tach lead, which Im sure isn't hard since someone around here hooked up an Autometer tach to their E series PSD
