gas tank volume question

i have a 1999 f350 7.3l crewcab. It is not the long bed...i think it is the standard bed. Well before i had read it had a 29gal tank. well i know when i filled up today i pumped in 31.468 gallons. I know the hose will hold fuel so i expect it to be over 29gal. well the idiot fuel light had turned on less than 15 miles from when i filled up. I have no idea how many miles i can drive after the fuel light comes one but if i really have a 29 gallon tank then my reserve from furl light coming on is REAL short.

anyone have the same experience? do i really have a 29 gal tank?

Are you the original owner? If not, the tank may have had the harpoon mod done so as a result will hold more fuel then the manual says.

interesting...i did the harpoon mod myself....i thought the harpoon mod was just to help fill faster and not give it more capacity...very interesting

Maybe the fuel pump you're using is ripping you off?

Yep... If I'm running really low, I'll get 29-31 in it. Original owner, factory tank, no mods to it.
