DP Tuner Options?
I just picked up a 2000 Excursion with the 7.3 and looking at a DP Tuner. I already have an intake, full 4" exhaust, and gauges showing my EGTs and boost, so from everything Ive read, I have everything I need to safely get a tuner.
Read nothing but good things about the DP Tuners, so thats the way I want to go. The pillar I have now only hold the two gauges, so Id be looking for one to hold all three gauges. Would something like this be just fine? 99-07 FORD POWERSTROKE TAN TRIPLE PILLAR GAUGE POD | eBay Also, as for the actual DP Tuner itself, Ill take it the option for the "Multi Position Switch" is the one I would be selecting to put in the gauge cluster on the pillar? Then what is the "EX Remote Switcher Mount?" Is this the part that I would mount in the dash to actually switch my tune? If so, Ill take it the in-dash switcher mount option would be the more desirable of the two? |

That pod will work fine but you should consider getting a transmission temp gauge.
For the switch you have several options. There is the EX switcher for up to 16 programs available in several colors. You could mount it in the dash with the JMS mount, on the dash with Velcro or hang it off a gauge with the ex mount. There is also a circular version of the ex switcher designed to mount in place of a gauge. Your third option is a rotary switcher that you mount in the dash with a knob to turn but it is limited on the number of tunes you can run. There are lots of pics on DP's website, take a look and see what works best for you. |

I've had a DP in my yellow truck for about 4 years, and am in the process of getting one for the red truck, and hope to replace the Edge Evolution in the Ex with a DP at some point also... I've had good luck with them, hope you will too...
I have the F5 switcher, I ran the cable out between the dash trim peices and velcro'd it in place just to the right of the steering collumn, just below the gauges. The one I'm getting for my red truck is used, and has the switcher that fits in a gauge location, the guy I'm getting it from is including a gauge mount that fits on the steering collumn, I'll see how that works out when I get it back from DP after being re-burned for my truck. 80 hp econo tune gave me a nice boost in useable power, and a gain of about 2 mpg if I keep my foot out of it. 40hp towing tune makes the trans shift well in heavy load situations, and a decel tune is great for down grades and reducing the braking needed, letting the motor and trans do more of the work... Also have a 1200 rpm high idle for jump starts. Really looking forward to seeing how it works out on my red truck. |
