7.3 No Start (Injector Questions)
Ok guys, this 01 7.3 is really starting to get on my nerves. I have spent countless hours and lots of company money to get this thing to be somewhat reliable and more efficient. No matter what I do I can't seem to win. Here is a link to the thread I made a while back about the mods I have done.
Doing Some Work, Any Suggestions? So I got all of that stuff installed without a hitch and it seemed to be running a bit stronger and the fuel mileage was definitely improved (went from about 9 to ~13 or so. The hard start wasn't fixed however and at this point I'm guess low compression is the culprit on that. But anyways, our driver was making a left hand turn yesterday while hauling 4.5 tons of stone and halfway thru the intersection the truck just cut off and wouldn't start back up. Now, I have no idea what's keeping it from starting. I tried dis/reconnecting the CPS (recently replaced) and disconnecting the ICP and neither of those worked. The fuel bowl is getting fuel so that's not it. I don't thing it is getting any oil pressure because when cranking the gauge doesn't move at all. Also, our mechanic hooked up a diag tool and said the ICP was only registering 160psi which is nowhere near enough to get the injectors firing... here is a video of it trying to start. It seems like there is some sort of weird gargling noise while its cranking that Ive never heard before. Almost like it has lost all compression or something. The oil looks really thin too for some reason. 01 7.3 Powerstroke no start - YouTube Last edited by CCA-F450; 06-15-2012 at 10:13 AM. |

Just installed a brand new Adrenaline HPOP and new IPR while doing all the other work so I don't think it's that...or at least I hope it's not the HPOP. (I also used brand new Ford HPOP lines and new reservoir gasket with screen)

Ok, so our mechanic seems to think it's a blown injector o-ring which would cause both of our issues (no start and really thin oil)...he changed the oil and now the bottom end has oil pressure and is filling the hpop res...it makes sense to me, what do you guys think?
next question would be do we just replace all the orings or do we go ahead and upgrade or rebuild the injectors? it's a lot of $$ but we would get more hauling power/efficiency and have the piece of mind that the injectors are in good condition (unlike most things on this truck)..thoughts? |
