Hydroboost question....

Is there a way to tell if it is bad besides pumping the brakes and then starting the truck to see if the pedal dips? Reason being is my alternator/steering pump bracket broke where the steering pump mounts to it. So right now i cant start the truck until it is all put back together. I am baffled as to why it broke but I was wondering if it is possible that the high pressure line to the hyroboost was working so hard that it rattled the ps pump until it broke the mounts? Not sure if that is possible but it seems like it could be as hydrolics can be pretty powerful and it would be Nice to know if the hydroboost could cause this. Since the truck is already taken apart I was wondering if there was another way to test the hydroboost. That way it's easier to take out and then I can cough up the 150 bucks without the core charge. Thanks for your help guys.
