new truck to me and need some help!
Ok guys, this is my first post in this section and I have a few questions. I bought the truck from a guy who didn't know much about it. It's a 2001 with 154k on the clock. He said it has a 10" lift but looks a little more like 6" to me. He told me it had a $8k "bullet" transmission in it, injectors, turbo, upgraded fuel pump and a few other things. He explained the turbo as a 4" turbo, I know it has a 4" exhaust. Also, it has a edge tuner. Is there anyway to be able to tell if the turbo is aftermarket? injectors? tranny? My three previous diesels were all cummins and I would be able to tell on those but this is a whole new animal. Thanks for the help!!

had to tell, and others will likely know better, but looks like a stock turbo to me... any pics of the truck, from the side, to determine the lift hight?
As for the trans, I'd want to see paperwork from the shop that built it, even a BTS trans isn't $8K, and they are known as one of the best 'bullet proof trans' out there... |

Not the best pic from the side but gives an idea!! It is sitting on 22" wheels and 37" tires.

The downpipe is definately four inch. Everything else looks pretty stock though. Fuel bowl has all the stock lines, turbo looks original, gpr is stock. Injectors you'd have to pull it apart to see. I'd be willing to bet those are stock too. See if he has any documentation to support his claims.
Also that is a bad place for the egt probe. The downpipe gives an inaccurate reading. You should move it to the manifold. Search around the write ups and you'll see how to do it. Sent from my Autoguide iPhone app |

Cool looking truck man! Turbo is stock on that, whether or not it has an aftermarket compressor wheel idk. From the pics the engine looks stock, minus the downpipe, and yeah you need to move the egt probe the the manifold. Also agree that you need paperwork to back up what trans is in it. Based on what the previous owner said if it has a chip or tunes, they are probably canned and generic. Go with PHP for good safe tunes.
Make sure you are running motorcraft filters for oil and fuel. I change both of mine at 5000 miles using rotella. Stick around and you will get a lot of great info from the guys on here! Sent from my DROID3 |
