exhaust question?

hello there, my first post and glad to be part of the 7.3 family. I recently bought a 99 250 4x4. Im gonna start with a few small mods like intake and exhaust. I did some research here and the 6637 seems to be the way to go. Now im stuck on the exhaust. I cut the stock exhaust and it rattles like crazy. Im looking for something a little smooth sounding. My question is, if i get an exhaust like diamond back or mbrp with no muffler will it sound like the open downpipe i have now? Ill appreciate any input

i have the magnaflow 4 inch system and i cut the muffler off and welded on a straight pipe and it sounds so much better than being dumped under the cab and is quite quiet in the cab now

the stock exhaust cut off short sounds bad, in my opinion. However, with the muffer replaced with straight pipe, the stock 3.5" exhaust, exiting in the stock location, sounds fine... increasing the daimeter of the pipe, with an aftermarket exhaust like MBRP, and it does deepin the sound, but sound diffrence is the only advantage unless you are going to huge power mods.

I was thinking about just cutting the muffler off the factory system until I could save up the money for a 4" turbo back system. Is there anyone out there running like that or has before? Do you get more turbo whistle? Any increase in the sound in the cab? I would really like to have a little more sound from my truck but also don't want to do anything that would end up making it sound like some pissed off bumble bee that you hear on some of those modified rice burners.

We took the muff/cat off my stock exhaust and put in straight pipes.. sounded real good but I want to get rid of the factory downpipe so I am ordering a 4" Diamond Eye Turbo back system tonight.

Bart i ran my truck for a while like that. Turbo whistled like crazy but also gained lots of rattle under the cab, youll looseget a bit of throttle response but eventually youll get used to it. I went with the 4"turboback mbrp turboback no muffler. It was a bit tricky to fit, especially the downpipe who was super tight to the tranny. It sounds a lot cleaner now and it still whistles.

My trucks are all straight piped stock exaust, except the Excursion, the wife won't let me do it... yet. I think they sound ok, and for the cost, well worth it. But, having a welder in the garage, and able to do it myself, and access to free pipe... you see where that goes... I have installed a glass pack style chrome muffler tip, it takes the edge off the noise, but even without it, it's not out-of-hand loud.
