I dont know what to buy!
IM in the market for another diesel. I am trading my F150 in for......thats what im unsure of. I love my 2002 7.3 (work truck) but I want something newer. I was told to stay away from the 6.0 but I want that little bit more power, newer body. But I have heard a lot of stories and was told about a lot of things that need to be done to them. The other issue that worries me is that cold start in the winter because I hunt. My 7.3 have always had issues starting unless plugged in. The years that I was told to definitely avoid is 2003-2004. Any suggestions, comments?

The starting in the cold should be easily resolved probably with some glow plugs or glow plug relay. My truck starts fine even when right around 0. I heard the same thing about the 03-04 years. The later ones seem better. Personally i would only get an 06-07 but even then i would always be worried and have to spend all the money to bullet proof it. Any way you go I am sure you will be happier than with the 150.

You don't need to fear the 6.0L, but you do need to know exactly what you are looking for. I'll append a couple of threads at the bottom of this for your information, should you choose to go that route. If you want the most up to date trucks look for those built after January 2006 - that was the last update from Ford for these trucks.
I really enjoy my 6.0L, and don't plan on buying a newer diesel until the emissions equipment (DPF and DEF) stops being required. There is a wealth of information on this site, that has saved me thousands, and may have saved the truck itself. Things to consider about owning a 6.0L Write Up: Bullet-Proofing the 6.0L PSD. I realize this is in the 7.3L section, however looks like a 6.0L may be in your future. |
