ZF6 Fluid change
Going to be changing the fluid on my 03 zf6 this weekend. Owners manual calls for mercon ATF? Manuals ive had before have usually called for a gear oil, is this right? Are there any better alternatives to just regular atf that would be okay in this trans? Also some one was telling me that the easiest way to refill the trans is through the floor in the cab, is this true? I was planning on just using a hose and fluid pump through the fill hole.

Gear oil is bad news. The zf-6 is built for ATF and has an internal oil pump that will be damaged if you put heavy weight oil in it. I use Mobile synthetic ATF and it's great.

okay good to know. I just assumed it was a standard gear box and found it weird that it was taking ATF.. do you know about how many quarts a fluid change takes? Since it has a pump is there a filter?
