7.3L Sensors Question.

Hey all, I just was wondering something. Besides the much talked about CPS are there are any other sensors that are prone to failure on these motors? I've heard that it's a good idea to have a spare ICP. My truck has 107,000 on it. I just don't want to be left stranded someplace. So far I've replaced the CPS and the ABS Speed Sensor in the differential and that's all. Thanks.

To my knowledge the most prone for failure are the cam sensor and the icp. don't really hear about other ones too often.

I would also take the exhaust back pressure tube off and clean it. Or if it has damage, replace it. The exhaust back pressure sensor doesn't fail as often as others. My truck has 213,000 miles and I just put a new tube and sensor on. Ford dealer want around $137 for a sensor, but I bought a new one on ebay for $28.

It made a huge difference on how my truck runs. My old one was pretty much clogged with soot and my tube had a hole in it. The sensor is located at the front of the engine on the passenger side of the 7.3 engine cover.

Used to be a chevy man: Thanks for this info, I will look for this sensor and tube and see what kind of shape mine is in. If I can't find it I'll post back for more details. thanks...

Cam Sensor replaced, no fix??

I have a 1999 F250 7.3 with 122 thousand. The last few years, especially when cold the truck would surge violently but of course never did it when taken in and the diagnostics were "clear" (per Ford dealer, so who knows). A few weeks ago the truck began surging and stalling constantly with the SES light on. My Superchip typically, on "Towsafe" gave the code P 0603 on diagnostic. Checking the forum it sounded like a CAM sensor problem. I reset the program to stock which eliminated the service engine light and it ran rough but no surges/stalls. This at least got me to my mechanic where he changed the Cam sensor. The first time I started it at the shop right afterward it stalled at idle twice but the shop diagnostic didn't show anything. I returned the setting to Towsafe once home and it ran fine for a couple weeks. Then it started surging a little and stalled when at red lights. Again I ran the Superchip diagnostic and it now showed P 603 KAM error! It is nowhere near as bad as it was but occasionally when it sounds rough or stalls the SES light comes on (but is gone as soon as the truck is restarted). It may run fine for a couple days and then do it everytime on others. HELP! Could it be the ICP, anyway to check?
Sorry for the long post. John

Need to make a new post!

Hey Contender....you need to post your question as a NEW post, it will get much more attention. Go into the 99-03 7.3L Repair forum or the Engine 911 forum and post it from there, you will have much better luck getting an answer most likely. Thanks.
