Oil Change

what would be a good oil change intervel ?? i've been told 5000 kms (3000 miles) 8000 kms(5000 miles) and 10000 kms (6200 miles).

i bought the truck in early march? around march 10th.... and it had 215,000 kms on the clock and now i'm at 221,000 kms. in a month.... so if i change the oil every 5k thats an oil change a month lol.

would i benefit any by going synthetic, or sticking with dino oil...

For me, I try to do every 5k miles, give or take 1k. I use plain 15W40. Usually Rotella, lately been Tractor Supply's Traveller's oil.
If I used sythetic, I probably would go 7k at the most without doing a UOA.
I don't do a UOA in the first place so I have no actual wear/shear numbers.

right now conventional. at $120-150 a change. if i went with synthetic it would double near in price $200-250 a change.


also i should add, i dont do a lot of idle time, just to warm the girl up etc. but i dont know what the Previous owners did. im gonna try and get a history from Ford this coming week

If you have having to change that often maybe just do the 5w40 synthetic for the cold winter months to help her out and regular during the summer. I think the manual says 5k miles but that is going from memory so may want to check.

5K miles is just fine.

Oil must be expensive in canada, should be about 60$ for an oil change and 120 for a synthetic oil change

Its not cheap.. its probably at least double once you cross the border.

I buy all my oil across the line now. Almost pays for the trip just from what I save buying down there

Geez who knew canadian motor oil was so expensive, the owner's manual the OCI is 3k for rough duty and 5k miles for normal use. Granted that is based on CH and CF oils of the time, CJ-4 oils are MUCH better. You could run the oil for 5k, do a UOA and determine a proper service interval from there.
