Is this normal
Is a slightly rough idle (like one cylinder won't combust occasionally) and a hint of cackle when cold, normal for these engines? After all, the newest ones are nearly ten years old. No performance problems, dead reliable. Just wondering what others experience as routine

Yes. It is normal for these engines to be rough, loud, rattle, smoke, and shake. All to some extent, obviously not real bad. This makes it tough for those of us that obsess over every squeak and rattle to just get used to the fact that there is nothing smooth about the 7.3.
They only smooth out and are happy when working. |
