Question charging system

i have a 2001 7.3 and am having battery problems. i know the one battery is shot it did not pass the load test i put on it. but what is bothering me is . i had it running and pulled off the battery cables and the truck dies. not sure if this is normal? i know on gas it will stay running. but the 7.3 shuts down when you un due the battery's. makes me thing im having a charging problem. thanks T

7.3 needs a constant supply of juice to keep the injectors firing via IDM. IIRC our stock alternators don't put out a whole lot at idle....so yes, sounds normal to me.

If you think there's an issue, check the alternator.

it is not normal. just ran out an tested it on my truck. it stays running. test your alternator.
