where to get a tailgate

Tailgate got trashed this weekend, anyone know a good place to get one from. local salvage yards are crazy expensive (same price as the dealership for the most part). Thinking of going to the 08 tailgate since it looks like i'll have to get one repainted. Any input is much appreciated

Any place around you do 'take-offs'? Ya know, the places that take the beds off to put utility beds on? Just offering a suggestion.

I didn't even think about that. Actually my buddys dad works for a place that does.

craigs list. north of the border they go for 2-4 hundred bucks plus painting.

Craigslist or Kijiji. Just found my 08 tailgate (the basic one) for $200.

Call the junk yards and ask for a tailgate for a 1997-2003 F-150. Same thing as ours, but they generally go for less. It's what I did for mine, was half the price.

This. I'm planning on going this route. especially since I have a white truck and most company trucks around here are white

Mines dark green and they are rare around here but I have a buddy that can paint it. Good thinking on the f150 didn't think about them being cheaper since more people ask for superdutys ones.

Like SuperCruty said, I got a 2011 take off from a untility bed installation for $400. Not a scratch on the thing. Ironically its dark green...........
