Just looking for some input on buying a 7.3
I am starting a hotshot business and am currently running a 3/4 ton Chevy
. Looking for a truck to better match the trailer, then maybe a lighter trailer for the Chevy.2001 F450 Automatic This is what I am leaning towards but am wondering what gear ratios it MIGHT have (or how to check) and what the GVWR/GCWR might be. What MPG unloaded should I expect? What is different on the F550? Just heavier springs? I'm not new to the diesel world, my family has ran them since the 90's and I have personally owned chevy diesels for the past 3 years and done performance mods myself. This seems like a very laid back forum with all the knowledge a diesel lover could need Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. |

The F-550 will probably have 4.88 gears. It has heavier springs, axles, and brakes compared to a F-350.

Nice looking rig.. There was one like this for sale locally not long ago and they were asking around 15k and more miles.... The price seems good, that is all I have to offer though. Good luck with the new Biz!

Looks like a very good deal.... my only comment would be to make sure the tranny is healthy. And definately add a 6.0 transmission cooler or large aftermarket cooler. Otherwise... great price!

Yeah, upgraded cooling and exhaust are first as well as gauges. Next would be a valve body and possibly a better torque converter, turbo, custom chip. Not wanting big HP#'s but a cool towing truck.
Any guesses what mpg I might get on a rig like that? 10-12? Last edited by tanman_2006; 03-24-2012 at 01:11 PM. |
