Exhaust Brake?

I'm new here. Just came back from a trip through Vermont towing a 10,000 pound trailer with my 2000 PSD Excursion. I tried to save my new PowerSlot brake rotors by downshifting (automatic trans) coming down the mountains. I guess that I overheated the trans because I overflowed trans fluid. Would an Exhaust Brake help? And if so which one should I get?

An exhaust brake would help. There are many different ways you can go. Either make your own, which is done by running a couple of wires and toggle switch making the exhaust back pressure valve think its cold and it'll close like a e-brake. Or you can just order a pre built brake, like from PAC or other brands. Upside to the DIY its really cheap, only wire and a toggle, downers- its not as strong as a true e-brake cause the EBPV doesn't close completely letting some exhaust slip by. The pros of the PAC brake are it'll really slow ya down but they are extremely expensive, i think PAC's is about 1200 bucks, but there are other brands that aren't as expensive. You also would have to get a tranny torq convert lockup box. Those aren't that expensive, but you need it so the TQ stays locked when you let up off the pedal. I think they started doing TQ lockups in 01 from the factory cause mine will stay locked up until i hit about 30mph. Someone else will probably come along and explaing the DIY method for ya a little better, but those are some options for you. Oh and to the ORG!
