Exhaust Question??
Hello to the forum users from a noob here. I've researched this question online and seen some mixed answers so thought I would ask it here.
First I have a 2001 F350 Lariat crewcab dually. I bought it in 2002 with 20,000 miles on it and now have 74,000 on it. The ole fella I bought it from installed a BD exhaust brake and trans lock and a Banks 4 inch exhaust and 3.5 inch down tube along with the gauges in the cab. I have added an Edge Evolution chip and an AFE ProGaurd 7 filter to help her along. I've always liked the Turbo whine that's heard on diesels setup the way to produce it and would think mine would have some decent sound but can't hear any Turbo whatsoever and the truck sounds stock to me in fact.....although the exhaust was on there when I bought so Mabey not.... I dunno. I'm taking it to the shop to get my exhaust brake worked on and am debating having something done to the exhaust while its in there to give me more of the sound of the Turbo out the business end. Except for recently driving my truck around town after building supplies for the house remodel its usual purpose is hauling a cab over camper and a trailer behind it with 4 wheelers/snowmachines/Ranger etc. I've read the Banks muffler is super quiet and totally agree, plus there's no cat on the vehicle either. If I have it straight piped will it be way too loud for our trips or better yet piss off niehbors when warming up in the cold Alaska winters outside? Should I get a different muffler altogether? The Banks muffler on it just has to go...... owned the truck for 11 years and ready for a change in sound. Thanks for any input fellas. |

I would definitely look into a mrbp turbo back 4".. you can get it with a muffler or a straight pipe. A lot of people on here run em and you'll notice a drop in egts too with the 4" down pipe.
You could always do the foil delete for more turbo whistle.. took about 30-45 mins and made a noticeable difference. Sent from my DROIDX using AutoGuide.com App |

I get pretty good whistle. I have a 4" turbo back with a MBRP muffler.

You could also put a wicked wheel in the turbo, that is supose to give a little more pronounced turbo whine as well.

Cody- Sound is exactly what he was looking for, this relativly cheap mod will give him a little more turbo whine. Unless he is a pro bench racer he will not miss 2psi. He was simply looking for sound not HP gains, |

Like I already mentioned it currently is 4" Banks system from the turbo back with a Banks muffler and no cat exiting in the stock location behind the duals on passenger side.Does anyone care to guess how loud and what kind of tone it would make if I yard out the big honking muffler and put in a strait section? It sound no different than a stock truck now.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be rude, just don't see the point in throwing $75-100 on a part that doesn't do much except whistle. Maybe if I had money to blow then sure.
As far as a straight pipe, I personally love the sound of em. Its a good deep throaty sound. Some ppl don't like em, some love em. Its all personal choice. You could always straight pipe it and if you don't like it then order a muffler for it like the Walker BTM, or possibly one from MBRP. Sent from my DROIDX using AutoGuide.com App |

Yea that sounds like a good plan to go with.... think Ill just go for it and see what I end up with. On YouTube ya see all kinds of different tones with and loudness depending on the truck and mods, was curious if anybody here had deleted the muffler out of my exact exhaust system and results........ thanks for the replies fellas.
