Anyone done a DIY air filter on a VAN?

Anyone ever find a way to get a DIY air filter under the hood of a van? I haven't looked at it much, but want to check it out... Was hoping someone else had already done this... Pictures? Parts list?

Thanks...

Greg

I just looked under the hood... wow it's tight in there. The only way I can see to do something like the filter I put on my SuperDuty (WIX 46637) is to move something... the battery on the right side, or the P/S res, coolant res, and the fuse box on the left side. There just isn't ANY room under the hood for a filter that size.
When I was looking, I didn't take off the 'dog box', but it looks like the tubing that goes from the current orig filter housing goes into something else, then back to the turbo. I'll look closer when I have more time. Anyone know off-hand what it might be in the middle? Seems like it has something that sticks out, going to the pass side of the van... can't tell, needed a flashlight...

The box in the middle is the resonator to reduce drone. I yanked mine, plugged the hose with a pvc cap and clamp. Haven't noticed anything annoying, and it's been a few thousand miles.

About the air filter. Like was posted, it looks like something has to be moved to get anything decent in there. Or there is this other guy that went up with the hood. Check it out here.

Rigs

I am thinking about getting a hood out of the junkyard and fabbing something up, putting a 6637 filter where the stock box is. I need to get the filter to see exactly how big of a bulge or scoop I will need.

You can try a similar filter that is smaller...

Get optima's and move both batteries to the other side.

You need to look under the hood of a van!! One battery is underneath on the pass side frame rail!

I really need to spend the time and take the dog box off, and check out what goes where. I could move the battery so both are under, along the frame, and then there would prob. be room for the 6637 filter.
RPM: your mods, gauges and DP tunes? gimme some details if you would.... I'd like to do SOMETHING, my van is a slug...
Thanks...

Yeah, my van was a complete slug. 3/4 throttle just to get going. Max boost about 14 lbs. Once I got the chip, wow. About 25 lbs on 80 econo, and a few more on 120 race. Absolute night and day difference. Driveability 10x better. I sent my chip back to Jody, and I am miserable without it! I got 16 mpg stock, and I still do now on econo, but I drive it a little harder. I would call and talk to Jody. Maybe he would recommend a tow tune for yours.

Yeah, it's always gonna think it's towing... sits at 10,800lbs curb weight. How did you mount your gauges? Any factory pods for the A piller? How do I get a hold of Jody? Got a phone number or web page? I hate to sound like I need someone to hold my hand, but.... **grin** I'm new to this.

Thanks...
