fuel filter questions?

I want to replace my fuel filter and i went to the powerstrokeshop.com cause everyone else wants a ton of money for these filters. The pss.com has 2 different filter options and i'm a little confused. One is 28 bucks and one is 17 bucks and both have the 4596 part number only on is FD4596 and one is F4596. Does anyone know which one i need or is there a difference? They both just say fuel filter too, its not like one says that there is something different about it.

Okay your post is in the 94-98 forum but your sig says 01, if it is an 01 the difference is probably whether or not it comes with the lid if I had to guess. You can buy them either way. You need to make sure your lid is separate from the filter or buy a separate lid before buying the style filter without the lid. I use Baldwin filters with the lid attached but keep my old lid put up for future use. Also you may want to look into the prepump filter mod to save your truck in case of a bad load of fuel and prolong the life of the expensive factory filter, my replacement filters in my prefilter are only $5. That would be my guess, but its better to be safe then sorry. Have you checked with the vendors on here for a price? They might beat or at least match the price.

oh sorry, i must have scrolled down too far and posted it in the obs section. My truck is an 01. No i haven't checked with any vendors on here yet. Sometimes unless the deal is really sweet, shipping costs can overrule the sale price and i might as well just go up town and buy one from Napa.

Well Big Al sent me a link to his filter source and that website compared all the oem and aftermarket brands and the only difference between the filters was that ones a motorcraft and the cheaper one is a Racor which pss.com claims racor makes em for ford, so..... I guess i will buy the racor filter for 17 bucks instead of 28 or more. Thanks again Big AL
