Need help asap

My Duramax broke down the other night an I know all you ford guys are gonna get a good laugh but I need help and the dmax forum isn't helping much. I been on here a while and you guys have been real helpful with my ford questions. Alright so I have a bad sending unit in my truck reading a gauge on E and the low fuel light. Well it took one extra crank to start it at my buddys house, I kept drivin, no sputtering or Anything, then as I rolled to the stoplight she sputters and dies. Can a sending unit go completely bad? It sounds like air in the system but we primed it and there is no air. I'm gonna change my fuel filter, the sensor, and the sending unit hopefully this will help me. Mods move this wherever I just need some help here

id check the fuel pump if you havent already done it.

fixed it the next day, found out the sending unit could go completely bad and it did. also had a fairly clogged fuel filter
