Boost leaks?

Anyone got any information on how to find a boost leak? I am almost postive I am not getting the boost that I should be, and my turbo looked to be in pretty good shape for me. It may be a really obvious procedure, but I am kind of new to the diesel/turbo thing and I know there is no boost at idle so???? Thanks in advance.

Today on my way into work I pulled out of an intersection thats uphill and floored it. Best it could do was 16psi, and that is the highest I have seen it go. I have the Ford Severe Duty intake, 3.5" Exhaust, 37" Tires, and a Edge Evolution set on Level 1. I would have thought from everything I have seen on here that I should have been able to get closer to 20psi, even if it was stock.

Yeah that sounds a bit low. Do you have any black smoke when you hit the go pedal? The cheap way to check for leaks is to tighten all your clamps to the intercooler pipes. Otherwise they do sell a plug that fits the compressor side of the turbo and you apply air pressure and see if it holds the air.

There is some smoke, but nothing that makes the car behind me disappear. I just assumed that it was a diesel and some smoke was ok. It doesn't smoke if I drive like a normal person. It seems to have a reasonable amount of power, but I don't have much to compare it to, I've always been around gas powered trucks. When the rain quits from this "tropical disturbance" in the gulf I will see about tightening the clamps that I haven't already checked. Just in case, do you know where I could get that plug? Thanks for the help.

Vitalidle, I just noticed you were in Munising. I was born and raised in Traverse City, used to go up around Munising for vacations alot. I sure miss it. Florida kind of sucks, but the military tells me where I get to live these days...lol Ah well, Just kind of cool to see someone from Michigan that's not from Detroit or Lansing.

Its possible you have a boost leak with the black smoke on setting 1. Here is the only place I have seen them. Im sure there is more out there and even the vendors here might have them. http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=607
Thats cool! Traverse City is a beautiful place! That whole area is growing fast. Munising is a great place also if you like the outdoors! Gods country in my opinion

The only problem is that it doesn't stay very well once the boost gets over about 15psi. I'm gonna make one out of a piece of exhaust tubing, so I can roll a bead on the end. Still, you can hear a ton with the pvc one. did the pic come up?
