Whats your opinion
I know this has been mentioned in other threads but it hasn't been the main topic of discussion.
99-03 7.3's When you let your truck sit for any amount of time, is it bad to have say half a tank of fuel? ( I run diesel fuel additive all year in the fuel) And should you be concerned about your turbo? Ive heard they can rust after long periods. Is there ways to prevent this? Like engine fog in gasoline engines to protect the cylinder walls ect. My truck will be sitting for a while (prob about a month to month and a half with some possible driving throughout) which is what brought up these questions but I also am curious what steps should be taken to prevent damage to diesels in general for long periods of sitting as well. |

Mine never sits, but I've heard if a diesel sits for extended times the tank needs to be full when stored.

Full tank helps with limiting the amount of water that can condense. I'd add a water demulsifier to keep it out of the fuel, and if it's going to be REALLY long, add something to prevent algae/bacteria from growing in it.
Never heard about the turbo issue on 7.3s, just 6.0s that idle a lot. |

thanks for the info....it wont be sitting for long, but with the weather freezing and thawing at this time of year I always have wondered about the fuel ect,
I tried to find where I read about the turbo but couldnt find it? If no one has heard of it maybe I was reading in a 6.0 thread......it was a while ago

Mine has sat for up to 2 months at a time... no issues.
![]() Some weeks it gets lots of miles put on it. Other times, I will go a month or two between fill ups. |
