DRW conversion - the cheap way?

I know this has come up a few times, but

I have heard that you can just install DRW on a SRW truck by simply installing longer wheel studs, but I have also heard you can't? Does anyone have some real first hand experience with this & can clarify for me?

I know I wont be increasing payload capacity, but I do haul heavy loads very frequently & want the other tires in case of a blowout.

Also, does anyone know what the overall width, from outside sidewall to outside sidewall would be running DRW on a SRW axle?

thanks in advance

The SRW truck uses a Sterling 10.5, the DRW uses a Dana 80 that is about 4 inches longer. If you want to go cheep, use spacers. You would be better off just swapping the axle. The front axle is the same, it just uses a spacer.
