Does size matter?
Howdy, is there any performance loss with a 5" turbo back exhaust as opposed to a 4" one? I have a 99 F350 and all I have done so far is an intake.....thanks....

a different tone is all you will get with a 5" exhaust. As long as you replace the downpipe with a 4" downpipe anything after that is really upto you. Exhaust kits are becoming so cheap anymore, its really up to you if you wanna spend just a tad bit more for the 5" exhaust or not.

Agrees with 7.3L550:

I bought a MBRP with a 6" tip but was worried bout back pressure and lowend response..So is the 5" a better sound? Lol

I personally like the 4" sound on both the 7.3 and 6.0. It's all personal preference.

I have never heard of receiving poor performance from the 5" compared to the 4" only a sound difference... I have heard only 1 or 2-5" exhausts... I really thought they sounded very good.... I do think both had mufflers installed... as for a 5" with no muffler? I have no idea... maybe a bigger Jet... LoL... I think both were on 6.0L...
I have heard the down pipe is the main key to performance... As for sound? It all depends on the owner... I personally love the sound of 7.3L with 4" turbo back w/delete pipe.... Sounds like a jet!!! Awesome sound... In town would be ok... But on the interstate or highway? Na.... I like a nice quiet cab... to hear crystal clear music or carry on a conversation... Been doing this research on my own. Some say with the 5" you lose some low end torque but turbo spools faster than with the 4" but many also agree that you can't tell that much difference.
