7.3 top 5 issues

I read on a 6.0 post that the main issues with that motor was EGR, blown head gaskets, and some sensor that had to do with EGR. Bottom line one was linked to the other and solving one meant no real issue with head gaskets being blown.

What are the top 3-5 issues with the 7.3 and good ways to avert them from occuring.

I have already found one the GPR and solved it this weekend. The terminals were very corroded as well as the batt cable where where all the supplies bolt in. Going to clean those regularly when doing the oil.

In no particular order I would say.

1) GPR/glow plugs- Fix them when they fail (MOTORCRAFT plugs!!!!!)

2) Cam Position sensor- Keep one in the glove box

3) Water Pump - check for leakage at the weep hole

4) PMR's- avoid 01+ for high HP goals (and a bit of prayer)

5) Turbo Pedestal O-rings- Replace when the leak

6) Fuel heater - check for blown #30 fuse and unplug heater if it fails.

Thats all I got for now....

Change your freaking oil. Clean oil means happy injectors and less of a chance you will have issues with injectors not being able to fire due to sludge in them.

They pretty much covered everything that is common. 7.3s have no where near the issues that the 6.0s have. Especially not any major ones to speak of.

Automatic transmission cooler is to small, swap to the 6.0 cooler. It will help the tranny live.

I forgot about the EBP sensor. That would rank high on the list as far as common.
