Question About Edge Programmers

I am getting the turbo replaced because the guy I bought the truck from put the WW in wrong along with many other things that Im now getting fixed. Right now it has a TS 6 in it but Im switching to the Edge. I hear people talk crap about the edge and the tunes that come with it. Is that the only problem? The diesel shop im buying it from installs their own tunes on it.

I have an edge as well only because it came with the truck. From what I have read the gains are not as big as the manufacture claim and they can be hard on the transmission because it does not adjust the transmission for the extra power.

The only vender I know of that reprograms the edges is php and think they can only do it the Evo. I would ask your shop for details about there tunes and if there is any programming for the transmission.

I didn't really understand what the deal was until I started looking at mine and realized all it does is fool the varies sensors on the engine to increase power. Your ts or any custom tunes actually adjust the PCM to increase power.

Personally I would keep the ts over buying a hacked edge but each to his own. I plan on getting php or another custom at some point.

Why do you want to switch to the edge? I am also curious as to what tunes they are going to put on the edge?

Save your money and get that TS reburned in the future.

just like said above. all i've heard of about custom tuned edges is about php. edge is just really hard on transmissions that's why people don't like them. i'd also be leary of someone tuning your truck that doesn't have alot of experience like all the big names.

thanks for all the replies. The guy that is doing the tuning on the edge does them for a lot of other people in the area. All the people from my trucking company go to him to get all of their work and tuning done. Been doing business for 15 years.
I can take that edge back to him anytime to get the tune done where I have to remove the ts 6 (cant run my truck because stock tuning wont run the injectors) send it out, wait to get it back, all the while not being able to work because Im waiting on the chip. Also does anyone know if the 1999.5 already has the wicked wheel stock?

the edge evolution DOES tune the tranny as well and your local tune guy can tune all of the for you the only difference between the EVO vs. 6 pos chip is the EVO is plug and play where the 6 pos is on the fly and plugs into the actual pcm, the local guy here in Watertown, SD knows his stuff very well and has tuned cars all around the world I trust him when he says the Edge products are just as good as any custom tune, theres a reason they are a multi million dollar company right?
