Failed emissions. Now what?

My truck has passed emissions fine the last two visits (every other year), this time it failed by a mile. Opacity max is 40%, mine registered 69%. Truck is modded per my signature, but has the DP tuner with stock setting which is what I used for the test, even ran high idle prior to taking the test. Runs fine. The only thing I was thinking doing is putting some Seafoam in the tank and running it hard on the stock setting for a while. I have a month before my tabs expire. I normally run it on the 80 HP tune.

Anyone have any suggestions? Is there a possibility it could just be a bunch of soot left in the exhaust from the 80 HP tune? Cat has been removed, but it passed the last two times without it.

Thanks.

If the way they are testing has not changed, you have not added or changed anything from the last test, then you should not have failed.

However, this is what I suggest you do:

1. In stock run an injector test to make sure all injectors are flowing the same.

2. Check the HPOP pressure. Low oil pressure will create more smoke.

3. Change Intake filter out to AFE STG 2 XP system. The 6637 doesn't give enough air.

4. Make sure they did not let the truck lug during the test. If they did that could have thrown the test. It doesn't take much lugging on a manual to make them smoke.

Hope this helps.

Diane

Thanks for the response Diane. I think I'm just going to change my address to a buddy's house and not worry about it. Truck runs great and I don't feel like fixing something that is probably not broken.

I've been very impressed with your burns. Truck is an 8,200 lb hot rod.

See ya.

I remember that used to be on of my brother's favorite pinches before he retired from Police work.
They watch for that.

Seriously, I think its all BS, Just passing on a thought.
I'm glad they got rid of emissions testing for diesels here.
