Auto enginuity

Ok I just bought an Autoenginuity scanner off eBay refurbished. I contacted the seller and asked if it would work on my 99 psd and he didn't get back to me do I bought it anyway. Now the guy gets back to me while the pkg is in transit and tells me my truck isn't obd2. Is this true?

Federal law states that any passenger vehicle sold in the US after 96 must be OBD II. So your truck is ODB II. If you look under your dash to the right of the steer column you will see the data connector, at least that is where it is on my 03 and I assume it would be the same.

You have a truck who's GVW exempts it from that "any passenger vehicle" and it is NOT, strictly, OBD-II despite the configuration of the connector. Yes, it IS an OBD-II connector and, Yes there are some OBD-II codes that are able to be pulled with an OBD-II reader BUT to properly scan your truck you Do need a specialized scanner...

Good News is, the AE is actually Upgradeable to do just that. What you need is the Ford Enhanced Package. I assume if you bought it from eBay, chances are you're getting it from AE themselves? (they're actually a Big Seller on eBay). If so, contact them to do the upgrade!

That's how AE works, you purchase the basic reader (what you ordered) and then ADD the package you need....

Yes it allows you to more tests.From what I read it is a code that unlocks more features. The seller should include it for you if they had it. before you buy the upgrade go to the AE website and it will tell you how to tell if you have the enhanced or not. Hopefully you are getting the cables or you got ripped off.

You will not regret spending the money though, it really is a remarkable tool that will save you many times over that cost
