Bad alternator regulator, 18v electrical shutting down? Help
First off my truck since I got it I think had a bad alternator the lights would pulse, and today I went to start heading down the street my volts hit 18 and all the lights got brighter my puller gauges we're going crazy. And I went home immediately, is that the regulator going bad

Also my alternator is hot to the touch. Truck was only on for 4 min

I belive the regulator is built into the alternator unless you have a shop that rebuilds them you have to get a new one. I would take it off and run it up to a parts store to get it tested just to make shur. If its running 18V it could fry your PCM so I wouldn't move the truck.

I'd say but get it tested a part store can tell you if its over powering eather way its gota come out.

The regulator is the one and only thing that would let the voltage get that high.
Fire, boiled batteries, are just a few of the problems that will result from overcharging. |

Don't risk killing your electronics, replace the alternator before you run it again.

Just went to autozone got a new one for free, the guy before me put a duralast in it, I'm gunna get a good one if this one blows
